2017 Australian Effie Awards Announce 97 Finalists in Round One

Full Press Release | Finalist List

Following a rigorous round of online judging by 125 industry experts, The Communications Council announces 97 finalists from 34 agencies on behalf of 46 clients have made it into round two of the Australian Effie Awards.

Finalists now compete for effectiveness awards across 24 categories, assessed by a team of 50 senior marketers, consultants and researchers.

Chairman of Judges, Colin Wilson-Brown said "I'd like to thank the first round judges for their time, insights and scrutiny. To see such a high number of finalists progress sends a strong message around the value of the work being delivered by our industry. The next round takes that further, with cases and results assessed by panels of senior marketers, providing a client perspective on how agency work is driving business performance."

The Effie winners, Effective Agency of the Year, Advertiser of the Year, and Grand Effie will be announced at a presentation in Sydney on Thursday 31 August.

The Effies are jointly presented by The Communications Council and the Australian Association of National Advertisers (AANA) in association with Think TV. Other sponsors and supporters include Displayground, Healthcare Communications Council, Hourigan International, Shootsta and UnLtd.

Call for Entries for 2017 Australian Effie Awards Announced

New Categories Announced

The Communications Council has today announced the 2017 Call for Entries for the Australian Effie Awards, with the closing date set for Thursday 20 April.

Running for the ninth consecutive year, the awards celebrate the effectiveness of creative communications, recognising campaigns that can demonstrate outstanding measurable results.

Following an annual review, three new categories will be introduced this year to award work in important and evolving areas, including:

  • Marketing Solutions other than Communications - How the core solution to the marketing challenge helped a business to grow or overcome barriers using marketing levers other than communications e.g. product, pricing, distribution or innovation.
  • Media-Led Idea - Media cannot exist without content, but this award is intended to recognise those cases that were led by the media thinking, and would not have been successful without the strategic media idea.
  • Media Partnership Activation - Winners of this award will represent those advertisers and media partners that knew exactly where and how to connect with their audience via the assets of a media company.

2016 Effie Award Winners Announced

  • The Monkeys named Effective Agency of the Year
  • The Monkeys awarded Grand Effie for Operation Boomerang - Meat and Livestock Australia
  • Six Gold Effies awarded overall
  • Officeworks is awarded Effective Advertiser of the Year

The Monkeys has been named Effective Agency of the Year at the 2016 Australian Effie Awards, scooping one Gold for Blackmore’s case: ‘The power of knowledge: How an 80-year-old reclaimed thought leadership’, and three Golds for Meat & Livestock Australia’s ‘Operation Boomerang’ a case which also won the coveted Grand Effie.

Described as Meat & Livestock Australia’s most successful Australia Day Lamb campaign to date,‘Operation Boomerang’ was awarded for demonstrating a very compelling and clear business case, with a high degree of difficulty; judges said the strategy was bold, disruptive, and extremely effective.

2016 Australian Effie Awards Announce 92 Finalists in Round One

Following a rigorous round of online judging by 120 industry experts, The Communications Council announces 92 finalists from 32 agencies on behalf of 43 clients have made it into round two of the Australian Effie Awards. 

Finalists now compete for effectiveness awards across 22 categories, assessed by a team of 50 senior marketers, consultants and researchers. 

Effies Chairman Anthony Freedman said “Congratulations to all of our finalists - each of these cases have demonstrated great results against challenging goals - an impressive achievement! The next round will be what distinguishes great from outstanding. Good luck in the next phase!”

Call for Entries for 2016 Australian Effie Awards Announced

New Categories Announced

The Communications Council has today announced the 2016 Call for Entries for the Australian Effie Awards, with the closing date set for Thursday 21 April.

Running for the eighth consecutive year, the awards celebrate the effectiveness of creative communications, recognising campaigns that can demonstrate outstanding measurable results.

Following an annual review, four new categories will be introduced this year to award work in important and evolving areas, including:

  • Online Brands - for brands or services in any category that exist only online;
  • Use of Data - where data has been used to develop insights, target consumers and demonstrate results;
  • Environmental Sustainability - for marketing programs that have measurably shifted audience behaviour toward more environmentally sustainable choices; and
  • Insight & Strategic Thinking - for campaigns that show the greatest insights and strategic thinking that lead to the communications idea and achieve marketing objectives.

2015 Effie Award Winners Announced

  • Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney named Effective Agency of the Year
  • The Works awarded Grand Effie for Canadian Club (Beam Suntory)
  • Four Gold Effies awarded overall
  • Meat & Livestock Australia is awarded inaugural Effective Advertiser of the Year

Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney has been named Effective Agency of the Year at the 2015 Australian Effie Awards, scooping two of the evening's four gold awards and a further silver for Luxottica's OPSM campaign, ‘The most important story you will ever read to your child'.

The remaining two gold awards were presented to Showpony Advertising for SA Health's Aboriginal Immunisation campaign and to The Works for Beam Suntory's Canadian Club campaign ‘Keeping Australians ‘Over Beer' for 5 years' - which also went on to claim the coveted Grand Effie.

2014 Australian EFFIE Awards

AJF PARTNERSHIP AWARDED 2014 GRAND EFFIE FOR ANPHA

• AJF Partnership takes out Grand Effie
• Seven Gold Effies awarded overall
• AJF Partnership is awarded Effective Agency of the Year

AJF Partnership was awarded the 2014 Grand Effie award for the Australian National Preventive Health Agency (ANPHA) at this year's Australian Effie Awards run by The Communications Council.

Finding a new way to help people quit smoking, the campaign dramatises the long-term suffering that a smoker and their family endure due to a smoking-related illness, compared with the short-term pain of quitting. Approximately 180,000 smokers made a quit attempt as a direct result of seeing the National Tobacco Campaign.

Continuing its success, AJF Partnership was also presented Effective Agency of the Year after claiming an additional Gold for the ANPHA campaign, a silver for Officeworks and two bronze awards for iSelect and Lion.

Seven Gold Effies were presented in total, with three awarded to Clemenger BBDO Melbourne for BONDS, and the final three were given to 303Lowe for Challenger, Host for The Coca-Cola Company, and Whybin\TBWA\DAN Sydney for RaboDirect.

The ceremony, held at the City Recital Hall in Sydney, also delivered 14 silver and 17 bronze trophies, awarding a total of 18 agencies and 23 clients.

2014 AUSTRALIAN EFFIE AWARDS – FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

The Communications Council today announced the campaigns that have made it into Round Two of Effie judging. A total of 80 finalists, from 32 agencies, are now competing for advertising effectiveness awards across 18 categories.

Effies Chairman Matthew Melhuish said “It is terrific to once again see so many entries progressing into the second round of judging. These campaigns have impressed the judges and proven a strong case for effectiveness, translating business problems into business results for our clients.”

2014 Australian Effie Awards Launched

The Australian Effie Awards Call for Entries opens today, with 20 categories available ...

Effies Chairman Matthew Melhuish stressed the importance of continuing to build Australia's culture of accountability and effectiveness and said: "The Australian Effie Awards has experienced extremely high volumes of entries each year since its inception, reaching a record 228 in 2013. Emphasis on achieving, and being able to demonstrate, outstanding results has never been so important to agencies and their clients. It means each year we are inspired again by the innovative and creative ideas being put before the judges. I look forward to seeing how high the bar will be raised this year."

The 2013 Grand Effie Award Goes to WHYBIN\TBWA Sydney Car Creation

• Whybin\TBWA Sydney takes out The Grand Effie
• Nine Gold Effies awarded overall
• Whybin\TBWA Sydney takes out The Effective Agency of the Year

The annual Australian Effie Awards, run by The Communications Council, celebrated 22 winning agencies and clients at last night's gala Effie dinner at the Sydney Convention Centre.

It was a very successful evening for Whybin\TBWA Sydney, which was awarded the prestigious Grand Effie for the NRMA Insurance Car Creation campaign. Proving its effectiveness across several categories, 'Car Creation' also took away Gold in 'Best State' and 'Other Services', while scoring a Silver Effie in the ROI category.

•    303Lowe Perth takes out The Grand Effie

The annual effectiveness awards celebrated 21 winning agencies and clients at last night's gala Effie dinner in Sydney.

Perth agency 303Lowe has been awarded the Grand Effie at the 4th annual Effie awards. Its 'Enjoy the Ride' campaign took out two Gold Effies for The Office of Road Safety of Western Australia.

The 2009 Grand EFFIE Award Goes to NSW Road Safety Campaign

Clemenger BBDO Sydney and the RTA take out the big prize

16 gold EFFIES awarded

5 campaigns are multi-gold winners

The top prize at the inaugural Australian EFFIE Awards has been won by a campaign produced by Clemenger BBDO Sydney on behalf of the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA).

The judges said The Grand EFFIE winner was a truly outstanding campaign that drove a real sea change in social attitudes to speeding. Clemenger BBDO Sydney used an insightful strategy to develop the campaign. The judges said the “Speeding. No One Thinks Big of You” campaign saved lives and benefitted the state by two hundred and sixty four million dollars.
